From President

Greetings all,
Another great meeting last month! Manuel Aybar from Dallas gave a wonderful
program on the orchids from his native Dominican Republic. Although, I must admit a bit of envy at his being from a country where you can grow orchids outside year round - must be nice!
We don't have a scheduled speaker next month so instead we'll fill our meeting time in a not so novel way - a plant sale! Roam through your greenhouse (or wherever you keep all those orchids) and bring in any extra plants, plants you can't get to bloom, or plants you just plain want to get rid of and we'll spend a pleasant Sunday afternoon buying, trading, and swapping orchids for the benefit of the MOS. Heck, since so many of our members grow plants other than orchids it doesn't even need to be an orchid - ferns, tropicals, herbs, bonsai, you name it - as long as it's green (or can be revived). And be sure to bring your checkbook, or cash if you're like me and in the doghouse for excessive orchid acquisition.
My last column was roundly criticized by my far better half, the lovely Virginia, for not making mention of the fabulous shower for Charles hosted by Barbara Baker and Susan Wilson. Charles, who came home a couple of weeks ago, is growing at a pace I wish my orchids would. He is well on his way to having his parents completely trained and as a result of the shower received a virtual store full of fabulous stuff. A great big group thank you from all three of us!
On a sad note, Pam Popejoy is leaving Memphis in the very near future for Atlanta and she will be greatly missed. We asked her to please come by anytime she's in Memphis (hopefully the weekend of the MOS show and also to please bring a dish for potluck). In all seriousness, we wish Pam "good luck" and come back to visit often.
In the words of one of the great philosophers who just happens to be a cartoon character - That's all folks! Michael Rowland
