Debra Baker brought recycled cd/dvd containers to be used for semi-hydroponic growing containers. She also has Michigan State University fertilizer available at a very low cost. (I have found it to be the best fertilizer I have ever used!)

Doug Mallory brought Dendrobium Culture handouts that are very helpful. Then he gave a little swap talk and we all began to hawk our wares.

Special thanks to Susan Wilson and Alex Kumok who brought delicious refreshments and drinks!

Show and Tell

Alex Kumok shared 2 examples of the benefits of semi-hydroponic culture; a Phal. equestris 'Riverbend' AM/AOS that had 3 keikis (and has been in bloom for 18 months) and a dark purple Dtps. Pico Lady AQ/AOS.
Chuck Pintner shared a sunset colored Slc. psyche x Janet that I wished he had brought to swap! No such luck. He also brought a Bulb.annandalei x Bulb. rothschildianum 'A-doribil' and the same Coelogyne ovalis he had shown us last month but with twice as many blooms this time.

Barbara Baker always claims she's having greenhouse challenges, but they sure seem to be working for her. She shared a gorgeously fragrant C. Chocolate Drop 'Kodama' AM/AOS, two Bc. Maikai 'Magumi' CCM/AOS twins (one light and one dark), and a Bc. Birosa 'Key Lime'. Lanelle Lindsey had done her homework and brought her favorite orchid, B. nodosa, also known as the Lady of the Night. She likes it because it is reliable and resistant. Did you know it was the first orchid known to successfully make the transatlantic crossing? Charles Wilson, October's winner, chose Barbara Baker's lighter colored Bc. Maikai 'Magumi' as the Orchid of the Month.
