Greetings all,
Summer has arrived! The temperature's climbed to the 90's, the mosquitoes are buzzing around, the humidity is like being in a steam bath, and the greenhouse fans are running full tilt. Oh, the joys of Memphis in June! At least the Bulbophyllums like the weather.
If you weren't at the last meeting you missed a great opportunity to add to your orchid and plant collection. A room full of MOS'ers brought plants to auction off for the benefit of our wonderful society and the bidding was as hot as a sealed greenhouse in July. And everyone walked away with at least one plant - even yours truly took home a few plants. Or "door prizes" as I tell my beloved Virginia; although I must admit I had a hard time explaining away half a dozen plants as door prizes.
If you haven't checked out our website lately, "www.memphisorchids.org", you need to do so. Alex Kumok is filling it up with all sorts of cool info - newsletter, events calendar, etc. But he does need some help with content - so put your thinking cap on and come up with some ideas of what you'd like to see on the MOS website.
Our upcoming meeting will feature video of the Middle Tennessee Orchid Show was filmed by our very own award winning cinematographer (well, not really award winning but highly talented nonetheless) Charles Wilson and as a bonus information on repotting Catts. In addition, the Wilson's and Rice's have returned from trekking the wilds of Africa and perhaps will be willing to regale us with tales of wild orchids and wild beasts! Be there or be square!
